Robyn Scott spent almost 20 years of her life on and off welfare, sometimes barely getting by with the help of food stamps and monthly checks from the government. Then, in 2000, her husband was incarcerated, she lost her house, and her son and his girlfriend had a baby and asked her to take care of it. In the midst of this stressful time, Robyn came to Jobs Plus for help.

Melody Kirkpatrick graduated from high school in the 1980s, became a dental hygienist, got married and had a baby. Her future looked bright.
Then the losses began to pile up. The first, in 1989, was the death of her father, someone who had always believed in her. A year later, Melody’s marriage fell apart and she divorced; over time, her relationship with her only child became very difficult. She bought a house in 1997, but financial issues caused her to lose it three years later. Then, about nine years ago, a romantic relationship ended. It triggered a rapid, painful, downward spiral.
